Architecture’s constant wrestling with the problems of space, scale, and matter makes it an ideal discipline through which to analyse and understand some of the most complex and pressing issues of our time: the Anthropocene, global warming, big data, and late-capitalism, to name but a few. These issues operate at scales and time-frames that are difficult to comprehend, let alone to represent and communicate them and their effects in the world. This performance lecture, presents alternatives to dominant extractivist socio-political narratives, as we tussle back and forth to explore design’s value regarding the formulation of sustainable post-carbon futures.
